I’ve talked about wanting a monkey for years now, and every time I brought it up, my friends and family would simply tell me how it was a stupid idea, and that I only wanted my own monkey slave. Is training a monkey to get me beer from the fridge, or to help me put on my clothes really slave-like treatment? What monkey wouldn’t want to prepare meals for me, or spin kick my enemies at my command? No, the monkey wouldn’t be my slave, but instead my close friend and comrade. The monkey would wear a suit and tie, and he would sit on my shoulders. Ah, a man can dream, can’t he?
What is helping hands?
So what prompted all this? Well, it seems another smart person came to the same conclusion that I did and decided that monkeys in the home are a great idea. Helping Hands is a non-profit organization in the United States that provides trained monkey helpers for disabled people who could use the help. They’re like dogs for visually impaired people, but infinitely cooler because they can climb around and do flips and shit. The monkeys also do basic tasks, like picking up dropped items out of reach – something that most of us take for granted. Helping Hands provides the monkeys free of charge to people in need, but the cost to train a monkey is quite high, and they could use your help.
