Every now and again car manufacturers like to tease us with what could be. Usually companies like Chrysler err on the side of caution, showing us conceptualized versions of cars that will likely enter production. Then there’s the rare occasion when a company goes completely crazy, and teases something like the SRT Tomahawk, a 2,590 horsepower hypercar of the future.
The car sports a hybrid drivetrain, with a Viper V10 (revving to 14,500rpm) powering the rear wheels and a pneumatic system powering the front. Couple this with some sleek aerodynamics and a single seat cockpit, and you have something of a fighter jet for the street. To drive that point home, the car features a pressurized G Suit. You know, like the ones a fighter pilot would use?
This isn’t Chrysler’s first vehicle with the Tomahawk name. You might remember the Dodge Tomahawk, a motorcycle concept released in 2003. The bike was equally as insane as the new SRT Tomahawk, featuring a Viper V10 as well. The bike had about 500 horsepower and only weighed about 1,500 lbs. So the Tomahawk name has a history of being absurdly fast.
Unfortunately, much like the motorcycle variant, the new SRT Tomahawk will likely never make it to production. Chrysler states that the Tomahawk is what they envision hypercars will be like in the year 2035. However the good news is, you can still take one out for a spin. The car is playable in Gran Turismo 6. While it’s a shame that we might never see the Tomahawk in reality, it’s great to see a manufacturers releasing concepts in this way.
So what do you think of the new Tomahawk concept? Leave a comment and let us know!
