With all the attention the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta received recently, and deservedly so, we thought we’d showcase a classic Berlinetta. As much as I love modern cars, there’s something special about classic sports cars with their simple interiors, curvaceous bodies, and smelly engines.
The classic sports car in question is the 1953 Fiat 8V Series 1 Berlinetta that has been meticulously restored to its former glory. The 8V, also known as Otto Vu, is powered by a 2.0 liter V8 engine, that’s right, an 8-cylinder engine with only 2 liters of displacement, the engine should make a glorious noise. The 8V Berlinetta was one of the fastest cars in its day and was one the favorite cars amongst “gentlemen drivers”.
This particular Fiat 8V Series 1 Berlinetta was taken off the road in 1968 and it sat rusting for over two decades until an Italian car collector bought it in the early 1990’s and spent many years and nearly $200,000 restoring it to the way a proper classic Italian car should look like. The two seat sports car was restored on the inside and outside and it looks as if it just rolled off the Fiat assembly line.
Originally only 114 Fiat 8V Series 1 Berlinetta sports cars were produced, making this a very rare and desirable European classic car. The car is currently for sale at kindston.com with an asking price of €450,000, which is about $600,000, which is a lot of money but the 8V Berlinetta is a classic car with racing pedigree and a very limited number of examples produced.
