Back in the day when I used to ride a motorcycle, to me it was all about going very fast on a “crotch rocket” and looking cool. I didn’t pay too much attention to other types of bikes but supermoto’s, or motards, were just becoming popular, as in, people turning their dirt bikes into motards. Or at least that’s how I remember it. Nowadays, mainstream motorcycle manufacturers actually have a category for these types of bikes, all you need is the cash and balls to ride these machines.
One such bike manufacturer is KTM and they’ve just released the Super Duke 1290 R. Last year at the EICMA (motorcycle show), KTM nicknamed this bike the “beast” and we agree, this thing looks like a beast and will require you to wear full leather gear just in case it throws you onto the street. If you’re looking for some new gear, check out P&H’s online store, P&H Motorcycles stock a wide range of motorbike clothes.
The 2014 KTM Super Duke 1290 R is a pretty sexy looking bike, it looks very aggressive, almost like a praying mantis or some sort of alien bug from one of those B-movies that invade earth and almost wipe out all humans.
Not only does the Super Duke look awesome, it also packs a heavy punch. Powered by a 2-cylinder 1,301 cc V-twin engine that produces an impressive 177 horsepower at 8,820 rpm and 106 pound-feet of torque, mated to a 6-speed gearbox, and weighing 417 pounds dry (189 kilograms). The KTM Super Duke should be quite a fun bike to zip through city traffic or take to the track.
Braking is provided by Brembo, the bike is equipped with a pair of 320 mm discs with four piston calipers at the front and a Brembo fixed mounted two-caliper brake at the rear should be enough to slow you down when you see the po-po’s. Via: KTM
