It didn’t take long for Mercedes to release images of the face-lifted 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Convertible, after they showed us the E-Class Sedan/Wagon last month. All of these refreshed 2014 E-Class cars will be officially unveiled at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show.
Like the 4-door E-Class, the coupe and convertible also feature two headlights instead of the 4-lights that have been around for almost two decades, the headlights feature bars of LED daytime running lights that give the headlights a 4-light look. Unlike the sedan, however, the coupe and convertible keep the pontoon rear fenders (the bulge over the rear wheels).
The E-Class Sedans and Wagons will be offered with two different front fascias, but the Coupe and Convertible will be offered with only one that’s similar to the Avantegarde trim on the sedan. The front grill on the Coupe/Convertible is a bit different with only one horizontal bar and the air scoops at the bottom of the bumper do look a bit more aggressive, at least in the pictures.
The 2014 E-Class Convertible will be equipped with an acoustic cloth soft top that is said to be the quietest in its class. When the top is down, there are two wind deflectors that deploy automatically to keep wind noise and turbulence in the cabin down.
The interior features soft-touch materials and comes with a newly designed steering wheel with paddle shifters and the steering column houses the Direct Select shift lever for the automatic transmission. This frees up space where a traditional gear lever is found and I predict more carmakers will be doing this in the coming years.
In US and Canadian markets, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet will be equipped with the same engines as the 2013 models and offered as the E350 and E550 models. In Europe, there will be 6 gasoline engine (ranging from 181 to 402 horsepower) and 3 diesel engine choices. All engines will come with auto start/stop feature to save fuel.
The refreshed 2014 E-Class Coupe and Convertible will be available in summer 2013.
