Spring is finally, almost… nearly, in the air.
As a resident of Osoyoos, Canada, we do the whole weather thing a little differently. It’s either really hot, or really, really cold. Right now it’s the latter.
But that’s about to change, and I’ve realized that I’m ill equipped for the spring, much less the summer. So I’ve started going through my wardrobe, figuring out what needs to be replaced or updated. I’ve got a long list of go-to brands, but even after all these years, there’s still one I keep coming back to: Triple Aught Design.
The Jungles of Belize, 2011
It was some time in 2011, and I had recently quit my job… or was about to quit my job, I’m a bit hazy on the details. At the time I was exploring Belize and Guatemala with my girlfriend, and I was testing out a new pair of pants from a brand I kept hearing about.
I’m sure you can guess what I’m talking about.
Yes, I actually reviewed the original version of the TAD Spartan pants all those years ago. I encourage you to read the full review, but it’s not required. In short, I loved them. In fact, I still own that very same pair, and a second one for good measure.
But here we are in 2014, and TAD has finally done a refresh to an already excellent pair of pants.
Here’s what they’ve changed since my review in 2011:
- They used NYCO Ripstop fabric, same as the last version, but with a DWR treatment that repels water in-case you’re caught in a downpour.
- They got rid of the knee reinforcements and instead added darted knees to increase mobility.
- They got rid of the D-Rings so that customers would feel comfortable tucking in their work shirt without feeling like their pants were a little too tactical for the office setting.
I’m not a soldier, operator, or military person of any kind. I am, however, an active person that uses these pants for rock climbing, hiking, and bumming around town. I think these changes are excellent, and I’m looking forward to TAD releasing more garments that keep their military practicality, but feature cleaner, more stylish sensibilities.
You can pick up the new Spartan RS pants on the Triple Aught Design website for $109 USD.
