2nd Generation 2017 Porsche Panamera

The Porsche Panamera sedan has been with us for almost 7 years, it was a love it or hate it design. I personally neither liked it or hated it, it was just an okay design, the rear end was very bloated and I wasn’t a fan of that. This luxury sports sedan did finally bring the rest of Porsche’s cars’ interiors into the 21st century, with pretty much every car in Porsche’s lineup using a version of the Panamera’s interior.

Now it’s time for take two on the luxury sports sedan, and in typical Porsche fashion, the 2nd generation Panamera’s design is an evolution rather than a revolution. But the new design does address the bloated rear end, the new rear end is much more leaner and looks more like the rear end off of a 911. The whole design of the 2017 Porsche Panamera looks like what a 911 sedan would/should look like.

The overall design of the 2nd generation Panamera looks very good, but I was hoping it would look more like the Porsche Sport Turismo Concept, shown a few years ago.

The interior on the 2017 Panamera is absolutely stunning, I don’t think anyone is going to argue about how luxurious and inviting it looks. The front takes the last generation’s great design and modernizes it with a large touchscreen and beautiful material. The rear features two seats and looks on par with an S-Class’s interior, the rear also comes with a touchscreen in the center console.

Under the hood, there are two gasoline and one diesel engine options. The gasoline engines include a 2.9 liter turbocharged V6 and a 4.0 liter turbocharged V8, and the diesel engine is a 4.0 liter V8. All three engines will come with new 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions.

The V6 engine produces 434 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, with a 0 – 62 mph time of 4.4 seconds or 4.2 seconds with Porsche’s famous Sport Chrono Package, and a top speed of 180 mph. The turbocharged V8 engine produces 542 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque, it reaches 62 mph in 3.8 seconds or 3.6 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package, and a top speed of 190 mph. The diesel engine produces 416 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, reaching 62 mph in 4.5 seconds, 4.3 with the Sport Chrono Package. Porsche will offer other engines in the future.

The 2017 Porsche Panamera will go on sale in the United States in early 2017, with prices starting at $101,040 for the V6 and $147,950 for the V8.
