Every so often I’ll see a bit of seemingly pretentious photography that I actually like, and Stellar, by Ignacio Torres, definitely fits the bill. In fact, one might say that this collection is… out of this world. In this set of 3d animated gifs, Ignacio combines the wonders of the universe with a bunch of people who are seemingly being blown away by invisible shooters. Honestly, I don’t even know, but the effect is incredibly neat.
I’ve seen quite a few animated gifs over the last year, but what really strikes me about these shots is the lighting. Ignacio picked a perfect time of day to take the photos, and the the setting sun really lends itself well to the galactic space dust motif that the photographer is going for.

I really enjoy this shot in particular. It looks almost as if a vacuum is firing dust, or possibly faeries.
In this photo, you can actually see the white… cosmic… matter… sticking to his face.
It seems this woman never learned about fireworks safety. Here she is being blasted away by a team of professional roman candle shooters.
Being struck by a shooting star would be less than pleasant to experience, but it certainly looks awesome. The kick-up of sand from the womans foot is a pretty interesting effect in and of itself.
And we end this post with a bang, and a blast of cosmic pink cotton candy.
You’ll find more of Ignacio Torres’ work on his official website, including a slew of other 3d animated gifs and still photography projects that he’s been working on.
I don’t think they are being shot at by cosmic dust.. I think they dancing, jumping and other general movements that embody happiness and ‘feeling alive’ so to speak. I think the artist was trying to show the essence of that or the energy coming off these people. Seriously, they look awfully blissful (some almost look orgasmic) for being shot at like you suggest…
