First came the cute Hyundai Veloster which was fuel efficient but a little on the slow side with only a 138 horsepower. Hyundai took notes and listened to the people which resulted in the Veloster Turbo producing 201 horsepower from the 1.6-liter turbo motor. And now that the SEMA show is coming up, there is the Hyundai Veloster ‘Velosity’ Concept in the works and it’s going to put down some pretty serious numbers.
The Hyundai Veloster Velocity Concept is a joint effort between the design and engineering divisions of Hyundai America Technical Center with input from renowned British tuner, Cosworth. The technicians from Cosworth brought their decades of automotive tuning experience and were able to turn the decently powered Veloster Turbo into a 400 horsepower beast.
In order to nearly double the power of the Veloster Turbo, a series of upgrades had to take place. Modifications made to this pocket rocket include high performance pistons and rods, a much larger turbo charger, larger intercooler, improved intake manifold, and remapping of the fuel management system. These changes increase the power from 201hp and 195 lb-ft of torque to 400hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. The Veloster was known for its fuel efficiency but you can now kiss that goodbye.
Other improvements on the Veloster Velocity include Brembo brakes featuring four piston calipers and two-piece rotors, a new suspension setup with Bilstein springs, and new 19-inch wheels featuring some beefy Kumho Ecsta SPT 275/35R19 performance tires.
And the already eye-catching exterior receives an aggressive wide body kit featuring a ricer style rear spoiler and a functional rear diffuser. Interior changes include a roll bar and custom suede leather touches. More details and pictures will be available later this month when the vehicle is fully revealed at the 2012 SEMA show.
