Beaches
Beaches are not just fun and relaxing, but they’re free! Whether you just want to lay in the sand in the sun and have a nap or go surfing and swimming out with the fish, your options are limitless. You’ll have to head a bit out of the city for this, but a whole day of fun for free is sometimes too good to pass up.
CityHopper Ferry
Believe it or not, the CityHopper Ferry is totally free of charge and you get some lovely views of the city from the river, making it a great way to get a new, and free, perspective of the city. It’s not very fast, so if you’re trying to use it as a mode of transportation you’ll be sorely disappointed, but as a way to see the Brisbane skyline it’s perfect.
Brisbane Botanical Gardens
Located in the heart of the CBD, the Botanical Gardens are free and have plenty of places to enjoy nature without needing to actually leave the city center. The gardens are huge so you could easily kill a whole day here and maybe even learn something while you’re at it. Stretching down to the river, there’s tons to see an explore totally free of charge.
Museum of Brisbane
If you want to learn more about the city of Brisbane from when it was first founded all the way up until modern day then this is your place. Totally free of charge, you can see exhibits about Brisbane’s history, importance in Australia, famous people to come out of Brisbane and even more. This museum has something for everyone, including kids, so the whole family can enjoy in the fun and no one has to spend a cent, unless, of course, you end up in the gift shop.
River Quay Amphitheatre
While spending time just along the banks of the river is fun and free, take it to an extra level by enjoying the outdoor amphitheater opposite the River Quay restaurants. There are typically free concerts going on and if nothing else, it’s a fantastic place to just sit and people watch and watch the sun set behind the buildings in one of Australia’s greatest cities.
You don’t need lots of money to have fun in Brisbane. There’s something for everyone, no matter what kind of fun you’re looking for, and no one has to pull out a credit card or even a coin.
