Swiss timepiece manufacturers Parmigiani Haute Horlogerie Authentique have created a clock that features a calendar based on a Hegirian calendar (the Islamic lunar calendar). This is the world’s first mechanical clock with this feature; the calendar featured is a 30 year continuous lunar calendar. The lunar year is 10 days shorter than the calendar we’re used and has 354 or 355 days in a year.
The mechanical parts of the clock measure 126 x 96 x 55.2 mm and sit inside a glass case that measures 334.5 x 242.4 x 212.4 mm. The dial comes with Arabic numerals, day and month in Arabic. The clock comes with a manual-wind 30-day power reserve and is powered by a PF236 movement. Only 10 of these clocks will be produced at a price of $2.5 million each (9.5 million Dirhams).
