I recently had the opportunity to review such a car, new 6th generation 2024 Mercedes-Benz E 450 4MATIC, for a week, and let me tell you, it was as luxurious as I was expecting it to be(and maybe more).

The sixth generation E-Class debuted in early 2023, code named W214. Unlike the previous generation E-Class, the W124 does not come in a coupe or convertible forms, instead the CLE Class is the replacement for both the E-Class coupe/convertible and the C-Class coupe/convertible.

Pricing and Available Trims

Base price and top trim level costs

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan is offered in two trims in Canada, the E350 and E 450 4MATIC sedans. In the United States, an Estate (or Station Wagon) is also available, but only as the All-Terrain version, which is a bit higher and “off-roady” compared to the regular wagon.

The base E 350 4MATIC has a starting price of $74,900 before any options. Our review car, the E 450 4MATIC starts at $84,900. Our review car had a sticker price of $104,135, which is a lot of money but you’re also getting a lot of car. I call it the more affordable S-Class.

This beast churns out 375 horsepower between 5,500 – 6,100 rpm and 369 lb-ft of torque between 1,600 – 4,500 rpm. The Mild Hybrid Drive system assists by proving up to 23 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to all-four wheels via the 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission.

I love talking about the E 450’s speed. This car is seriously quick! It zooms from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. That’s half a second faster than the old model.

These numbers aren’t just for show. They mean real-world power when you need it. Merging onto highways is a breeze. Passing slower cars feels effortless. The E 450’s speed makes driving fun and safe.

It’s not often you find a car that mixes luxury and performance so well. But Mercedes has done it with the E 450.

Braking performance

I’ve put the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E 450 4MATIC through its paces, and I’m blown away by its braking performance. This car stops on a dime! In my tests, it screeched from 96 km/h to a full stop in just 110 feet.

That’s a whopping 29-foot improvement over the previous model. The brake pedal feels firm and responsive, giving me total control in emergency situations.

2024 Mercedes-Benz E 450 4MATIC Fuel Efficiency

The E 450 packs a heck of a lot of horses under the hood, but that doesn’t mean it’s super thirsty. In fact, it’s quite a miser when it comes to fuel consumption, I was quite surprised by it. According to Mercedes-Benz, the E 450 4MATIC should consume 10.8 L/100 km in city driving, and 7.7 L/100 km on the highway. After driving it over 200 kilometers in a week, with about 70/30 highway/city driving, the onboard computer showed average consumption of 9.1 L/100 km (that’s 25.85 mpg in freedom units).

The fuel consumption numbers are quite impressive, however, the harder you drive the car, the more fuel you’ll consume. I drove the E 450 quite responsibly, putting it in Eco mode on the highway, which helps a lot with saving fuel, because when you’re coasting in Eco mode, the engine turns off.

Exterior Styling

The sixth generation 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan (W214) is quite a handsome looking car, it can’t be mistaken for anything other than the E-Class, as it looks similar to the fifth generation E-Class from a distance. But looking at it closely, it seems like a more mature version of the previous generation car, with a lot of character. The car is much more muscular and has a lot of road presence.

It features a large front grill, which doesn’t look out of place, with large headlights, giving it quite a serious look at the front. The side profile is elegant, with the classic rear-wheel-drive look, with the front wheels pushed all the way to the front bumper. The door handles are flush, they pop out as you walk up to the car with the key fob in your possession. The rear design is clean with distinct taillights; the tail lights feature the famous Mercedes-Benz three-pointed stars worked into them.

Comfort and Interior Features

I sank into the plush leather seats of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E 450 4MATIC. The cabin felt like a cozy cocoon, wrapping me in luxury and quiet.

Seating materials and comfort levels

I loved sitting in the E 450’s seats. They’re covered in soft leather and come with heating, cooling, and power adjustments up front. Our review car had the optional massage seats, which I took liberal use of while driving, or waiting for someone in the parking lot. And thanks to the mild-hybrid system, I didn’t need to run the gasoline engine while waiting in the parking lot, to get my massages.

Talk about luxury!

The visibility from the driver’s seat is top-notch too. I can see everything around me clearly, which makes driving this beauty a breeze. The controls are easy to use, they might seem overwhelming at first sight, looking at that massive screen is something else! But I got used to them very quickly.

There is plenty of room in the front and rear, the rear passenger compartment feels luxurious. The sun shades add an extra element of luxury, who wants to look at world outside when you’re in a luxury sedan like the E 450?

Cargo space and interior storage solutions

Moving from the comfy seats, let’s talk about storage. I’m impressed with the E 450’s cargo space. The trunk gives me 12.7 cubic feet to work with. That’s plenty of room for my golf clubs and weekend bags.

Inside the car, I find smart storage spots everywhere. There are pockets in the doors, a big center console, and even hidden compartments.

I really like how Mercedes thought about families too. The back seat is bigger than before, which is great for tall passengers or car seats. Speaking of car seats, the outboard seats in the back have two full sets of LATCH connectors.

There’s also a tether anchor. This makes it super easy to install child seats safely. Whether I’m hauling groceries or taking the kids to soccer practice, the E 450 has me covered.

Technology and Connectivity

I’m blown away by the infotainment system in the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E 450 4MATIC. It has a huge 14.4-inch touchscreen that’s super easy to use. I love how the third-gen MBUX system works – it’s like having a smart assistant right in my car.
