Some of my favorite cars in the past have come from the Datsun, Nissan, and Infinity family and that continues to be the case to date with vehicles such as the Maxima, 370Z, G Series, M Series, and Infiniti FX Series. Just yesterday, Infinity and Austrian manufacturer, Magna Steyr, announced the details of a new Infiniti premium compact model.
The new entry-level Infinity is to hit the showrooms in 2014 and will be available in key markets around the world including Western Europe. No word yet on whether it will be available in North America but I would consider this part of the world as a ‘key market’.
Although Infiniti did not release all the details about the entry-level model, it did say that the Etherea Concept vehicle “provides a possible glimpse of the future”. The Etherea concept vehicle is based on a platform that will use a hybrid powertrain. The Infinity Etherea is equipped with a four cylinder 2.5-liter supercharged gasoline engine, an electric motor, and CVT producing 245 horsepower.
Now that the production of the vehicle is confirmed, Infinity has 1-Series from BMW and the A3 from Audi in their crosshairs. We’ll update once we have the official name and more updated photographs of the production version. While we wait for that, have a look at the Infinity Etherea Concept.
