I really can’t picture people in the UK driving trucks. When I think of that region, small cars usually come to mind. But South Korean manufacturer, SsangYong, is now selling their Korando Sports truck in the United Kingdom. The small pickup truck is priced between $29,250 and $34,000.
The small, four door pickup truck, features a short bed providing 22 square feet of loading area. The Korean car manufacturer is hoping to market the vehicle to the UK citizens who need a working vehicle, the practicality of a four-wheel drive, towing capacity of up to 2.3 tons, and also so as a family vehicle.
The Korando Sports is available in two trims. The base model, SX, is powered by a Euro 2.0-liter turbo diesel producing 153hp and 265 lb-ft of peak torque. The SX model also features 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning; leather covered steering wheel, tinted glass, as well as a Kenwood mp3 sound system with a USB & auxiliary port and Bluetooth. The EX model comes standard with a manual gearbox but can be equipped with an optional six-speed automatic transmission. Both trims have the option of the canopy which matches the body paint.
The next trim is the EX which is also powered by the same engine but features bonuses such as heated front seats, powered driver’s seat, and rear parking sensors. This is definitely a basic, entry-level work truck.
The Korando Sports looks pretty decent from the front but from the rear, it’s “too 90’s looking” for me. Not sure about its competition in the UK but this thing would get murdered by the Colorado, Tacoma, and Frontier in North America. But at least it gets pretty decent combined mileage of 37.7mpg (UK).
