Get your wallets out boys and girls; the new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster is here. The car was unveiled today in Miami, Florida and will make its official international debut at the LA Auto Show at the end of November.
The Aventador coupe is enough of a car to make you grin from ear to ear every time you get behind the wheel, the roadster on the other hand will probably make you smile so hard, your jaw might fall off! I mean, who wouldn’t be smiling in a car that looks like a jet, with sun in face and wind in hair, and don’t forget about the beast of an engine that sits inches behind the driver and passenger.
Speaking of engines, the Aventador Roadster is powered by the same naturally aspirated 6.5 liter V12 engine producing 700 horsepower and 509 pound-feet (690 Nm) of torque, sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed single-clutch semi-automatic transmission. The Aventador Roadster does the 0 – 62 mph sprint in 3.0 seconds, only 0.1 seconds slower than the coupe, and has a top speed of 217 mph (350 km/h).
Unlike the Murcialago Roadster, which had a cloth top, the Aventador LP700-4 Roadster comes with a top made out of lightweight carbon fiber, weighing 13 pounds (6 kg), but unlike the Ferrari 458 Italia Spider and the McLaren MP4-12C Spider, the top is not automatic. According to Lamborghini, the top can be taken off and put back on in only a few seconds and it can be stored in the front luggage compartment along with the removable glass wind deflector.
The LP700-4 Roadster is pretty much identical to the coupe with a re-worked rear pillar and a two-tone paint job with the removable top and pillars finished in gloss black paint. A new paint, Azzuro Thetis (light blue), is exclusive to the roadster which is inspired by the 1968 Lamborghini Muira roadster’s paint. The roadster also comes with 20” front and 21” rear Dione forged wheels which weigh 22 pounds less than the stock rims on the coupe.
The 2013 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster is available for order worldwide with prices starting at €300,000 or about $380,000 US. US specific prices will be announced at a later date.
