Ever heard of the Thief franchise of games before? Yeah… they’re kind of a big deal, and now, after many years, we’re finally getting another one.
For some of you, this isn’t exactly news. If you’ve been following my posts for the last few years, then you might have seen me mention the new Thief a few times. Recently there was a bout of new screenshots, and before that, deeper and deeper, way back… was a leaked trailer from a fellow named Eric Wong. Pretty cool, right?

What you’re about to watch is a brand new, old trailer, of the new Thief game. Make sense?
Basically, Square Enix finally decided to grace us with a trailer, which is awesome, but there’s one little catch… most of the material is old. If you go back and watch the leaked footage, well… you may see a few similarities. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing – since the cinematic is pretty cool – but I do find it rather suspect that they’re using footage that is so bloody old.

There was one major difference between the two pieces of footage (actually there were many, but anyway…), and that’s that a certain voice actor was sadly and mysteriously absent: Stephen Russell. I won’t go so far as to say he made the previous Thief games, but in my opinion, he’s an integral part of the Thief spirit. He’s like David Bateson is to Agent 47’s character, and that’s not something that gamers are going to be quiet about. I say this from experience.
Thief Release Details… ish
As it stands, we don’t have a concrete release date for the new Thief. We know that it’s going to arrive before the end of the year, and Amazon says we can expect it on December 31st, 2013, but really… how likely is that? I would say the chances are pretty slim, but you can still go ahead and pre-order it for around $49.99 USD anyway. Besides, you’ll probably get some sweet, totally adult “figurine” with it if you do. Nerd.
