As a child of the 80s, shows like Ghostbusters, Ninja Turtles, Thunder Cats and yes, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe were my bread and butter. I had the toys, I watched the shows, and I longed to be just like the characters. Well, except for maybe Crang in Ninja Turtles…
It’s been a long time since I’ve thought about any of these shows in any serious way (not that I ever really did – they’re pretty goofy), but recently I saw a collection of artwork by a fellow named Gerald Parel that I just had to share with you. Based on He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and painted in what I’m going to call a “pretty fuckin’ awesome” art style, you’ll find all your favorite characters from the 80s adventure, born again.

The bird faced head-dress is a little off-putting, but the rest of the outfit is pretty damn awesome…

What did you think of Gerald Parel’s work? Personally, I really love the lighting. Though the characters themselves are beautifully rendered, what I find most eye catching is the lighting. It’s stark, but not at the expense of character detail. No, I would say that Gerald pretty much nailed it.
