If you had asked me 10 years ago if I thought we would have a program that gave us a gods eye view of the earth – right down to the street level – I would have called you crazy. But Google has given us just that with Google Street View, and though the service has been available for years now, it’s getting better and better, and creative individuals are taking the technology even further.
Recently Teehan+Lax released an interesting little tool that allows people to create Hyperlapse videos. If you’re wondering what the hell a Hyperlapse is, well… you aren’t alone; I had no idea either. In short, well… it’s probably easier if you just watch this video clip.
Teehan+Lax Labs Google Street View Hyperlapse
This is a Hyperlapse video created by the fellow who actually wrote the program… you know, the program that I haven’t actually shown you yet. Watch this, and then we’ll get to that in a moment.
See what they did there? Teehan+Lax’s Hyperlapse tool basically takes Google Street View data, stitches it together, and speeds it up, creating an awesome, sweeping visual of whatever street or coordinates you specify. Pretty cool, right?
Even better is that it’s simple to use. You just specify a path, and the camera will sweep between the coordinates, giving you some awesome footage. Just be aware that you will need your own software if you want to actually record the footage, and page itself is a bit hard on your browser as well. You’ll need a half decent computer running Google Chrome to really pull it off.
So without further adieu, check out this page to give the application a try, and if you come up with your own awesome Hyperlapse, record it and send the link our way. We’ll make sure to feature it here for all to see.
This look amazing and full with creative potential tool. I may give it a try if isn’t too expensive.
Then you’re in luck, since it doesn’t cost a penny. 🙂
