Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain – Featuring Solid Rubber Floppy Snake

You’re going to laugh, but I’ve never actually played a Metal Gear Solid game.

Sure, I’ve seen friends play them over the years, but because of my dislike of the Playstation platform, well… I just never got around to playing them. It’s sad because I actually kind of admired the last few, at least from a distance.

Metal Dong Solid: The Phantom Limb Pain

I’m a mature adult, don’t judge me! I’m so mature in fact that I’m actually going to bury the hatchet and give the Playstation a shot this generation. Yes, you read that correctly… I’m going to switch sides, kind of. I’ll always be a PC gamer through and through, but given how good games like MSG and Beyond: Two Souls are looking, well… I just have to give them a try.

So on that note, check out this awesome directors cut of some crazy trailer that Kojima put out for Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain. After you watch it, let’s talk about it, and I’ll tell you about my confusion with the characters in the Metal Gear franchise.

So, what did you think of that? I mean, other than the music of course, which sounded like it was straight from the intro of a 90s soap opera.

I found the art direction and graphics engine extremely impressive, and the shift towards an open world is a welcome one as well. Roaming around on a horse, sneaking into places as Icecream Snake, and kicking some ass looks like it’s going to be a whole bunch of fun! The Japanese really know how to create pretty looking games, with deep, and extremely confusing stories. So, remember how I said I don’t understand the characters?

So… Many… Snakes.

Tell me something… is Snake immortal, or does he have a whole bunch of identical twins? I swear there are like a billion snake people. I remember Solid Snake, Liquid Snake, and now there’s some crazy new snake… Rubber Snake, or Slithering Snake or something like that. Honestly, I just don’t understand it… why don’t they just come up with some new names, like James, or Edward? Seems pretty straight forward to me…
