Okay, so the Romain Jerome Tattoo-DNA watch is not made out of human skin, but based on their previous watches, like the Titanic DNA, which featured metal from the Titanic; one would think the Tattoo-DNA comes with at least a bit of tattooed skin…
No human skin, but the watch does have something to do with tattoos; for this watch Romain Jerome teamed up tattoo artist Mo Coppoleta, founder of the tattoo studio The Family Business, based in London.
The Romain Jerome Tattoo-DNA watch has a nickname “A Sailor’s Grave”, I’m not sure what that means but I do know back in the 18th century, sailors used to get tattoos on their arms and chest as a form of protection from all the “evil” out on the seas. So there is a connection between sailors and tattoos, the video below might explain something, it’s quite trippy.
The Tattoo-DNA watches will come in four varieties and each will be limited to 25 pieces. The watches come in the same case seen on most of the RJ watches we’ve written about recently, and it measures 50 mm. The cases are PVD coated with half of them have stainless steel elements. The all-black watches come with black straps, and the other 50 come with skin colored straps with a tattoo of a heart with a knife through it.
The dials on these watches are beautiful and very artistic, made with an anchor in the middle, with water surrounding it, and clouds towards the top of the dial. There are two versions of the dial, one version comes with red lightning bolts and the other with yellow lightning bolts. There are no hour markers or any other watch features on the dial, other than the two hands. It’s clear, this watch is more about showing the artistic creation of Mo Coppoleta than about just telling time.
The RJ Tattoo-DNA watches are powered by an RJ001-A automatic movement (which is a modified ETA 7750 movement) with 42 hours of power reserve. The watches will be priced at $18,450 each. Via: RJ
