Back in the mid-90’s, I had this great idea of starting a company (when I grew up) and taking classic cars, or building replicas, that had the classic looks on the outside with completely new technology and creature comforts underneath the skin. This was before all the tuners came onto the market, or were famous; it was a great idea at the time. It still is, but now there are lots of these types of classic cars with modern technology, take for example, the Equus Bass770.
No, this car has nothing to do with the Korean carmaker Hyundai and their luxury sedan, the Equus; this car is all about power and handling, and of course classic sexiness. On the exterior, it uses a 1960’s Ford Mustang fastback shell with a modernized front fascia. I’m not too sure if the front design works, it looks a bit out of place to me. Everything else looks top notch though.
Under the classic body is a state of the art aluminum body and frame with a hell of a powertrain. Powering this beautiful car is a supercharged 6.2 liter Corvette ZR1 LS9 V8 engine that cranks out 640 horsepower and 605 pound-feet of torque; power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Equus Bass770 does the 0 – 62 mph (0 – 100 km/h) sprint in 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 200 mph, and to bring it back to a standstill, the car is equipped with Brembo ceramic brakes.
The Bass770 is equipped with modern technologies like LED headlights and taillights, air-conditioning, cruise control, GPS, tire-pressure monitoring system, USB connectivity, CD/DVD player, and even airbags. The interior is beautiful with leather covered seats, dashboard, door panels, and the center console.
Overall, the Equus Bass770 is a very well executed package with lots of power, retro styling, and modern technology… and now the bad news, the car starts at a price of $250,000 and you can add options to take it all the way up to $290,000. But wait, there’s more…if you want a completely bespoke version of the Bass770, prices start at $300,000 and can go as high as your imagination (or your bank account) would allow.
