I’m always on the lookout for new and innovative ways to make my life a little easier.
Sometimes that comes in the form of bottle sabering techniques, and other times it’s something as simple as tying one’s shoes. If you can remember way back to 2011, I posted up a video showing a very useful, alternative way to tie shoes. The knot is cleaner, more secure, and faster to tie. But what if you really, really need to tie your shoes in a hurry?
Ian’s Fast Shoelace Knot… I think. Probably.
If you’re a shoe or shoelace knot tying enthusiast with a need for speed, then Iain’s Fast Shoelace Knot is the knot for you. This video below may or may not actually be the knot that I’m talking about, but it sure looks like it, so I’m going to run with it. See what I did there?
See how simple and fast that was? Yeah… pretty impressive, right? The best part is that this technique will work on absolutely any pair of shoes that contains shoelaces. One of the brilliant people on YouTube thought that these only work with blue shoes, but I have it on good authority that any shoes will work.
Also worth mentioning is Ian’s shoelace site, the person who may or may not have come up with the technique that this may or may not be. In any case, it’s a great resource for said shoelace enthusiasts. The whole website is riddled with various ways to tie shoes, and some of them – including the one I featured above – are actually quite useful.
What About You?
Unless you’re an imbecile – or someone that wears Five Finger shoes, because they’re way cooler – then there’s a pretty good chance you need to tie your shoes each day. So the question is, how do you tie your shoes? Is there a particular knot you favor, or have you just stuck with the way daddy taught you as a child?
Whatever your style, I’m looking forward to hearing all about it in the comments below.
“This technique will work on absolutely any pair of shoes”. So glad to come across this, at least my combat boots are not exempted.
I like to wear boat shoes and camp mocs, and keeping the rawhide laces tied is maddening! I don’t have much of a problem with other type laces… but can’t seem to keep these tied for any length of time at all. I’ve tried double knots, etc–nothing works for long.
