Over the years, we’ve reviewed a few different headphones ranging from a $100 to a few hundred dollars. I don’t have the audio engineers ear but after a certain point, they all start to sound the same to me and the differences are minimal (to the untrained ear). When I heard about the Happy Plugs Earbuds which retail for $14,500, I’m not sure what to expect once the music experience starts. Unfortunately, I don’t have a pair to test out but at this price point, the earbuds better be able to pleasure me in ways no woman could.
Happy Plugs, a Swedish company, is known for manufacturing and creating sleek and stylish accessories for smartphones which are sold in over 50 countries. The $14,500 pair of Happy Plus Earbuds are hand crafted by a skilled goldsmith artisan in Stockholm. The earbuds contain 25 grams of gold which is valued at approximately $1,190 USD at today’s rate.
I wonder if anybody would actually purchase this even if they could afford them? What am I saying? Of course they would, there is a sucker born every minute. We have the blinged out rappers, the middle eastern sheiks, or perhaps the Hong Kong business person.
In terms of specs, there is no difference between the gold colored Happy Plug Earbuds and these pricey solid gold earbuds – just the price difference. For people like us who can’t afford the solid gold, there are the gold colored earbuds which go for $29.99 and silver-colored going for $39.99.
Good on Happy Plugs for making an 18 carat gold pair of earphones and using it as a marketing gimmick to attract attention. It’s working and here we are talking about it.
