Seiko is updating their Astron GPS line of watches with the introduction of a new watch that comes in 6 varieties; we first wrote about these watches a couple of year ago when they were first released. The new Astron GPS watches have a completely new design that’s inspired by the curvature of the earth and the stratosphere that surrounds it.
The Astron GPS “Stratosphere” watches use the same movement and technology as the original watches, with the same features that automatically adjust the date and time to the correct time zone with the click of a button, using satellite signals. The new watch is, however, even bigger than the previous Astron, now measuring 48.1 mm wide and 18.1 mm thick.
The watch itself is pretty decent looking, with large hour indices, standard three hands, and a 24-hour sub-dial. The curved sapphire crystal is very prominent and gives the watch a unique look. According to Seiko, they’ve added extra lume under the crystal to give the watch that atmosphere look; blue looking hue around the earth when the earth is photographed from space. The dial also features a map of the earth, with a view from the top of the globe (the North Pole).
The watches will come in IP gold steel, steel, or IP black steel cases; prices will be a bit more expensive than the original with a price range €2,300 – €2,400 (or about $3,100 – $3,275 US). Via: Seiko
Just bought the ‘old’ model but i think i prefer it to this one. Dont know why they made the hour markers smaller except for 12,3,6 & 9pm.
