Girard-Perregaux Opera Three Watch – Plays Music by Tchaikovsky and Mozart

Girard-Perregaux-Haute-Horlogerie-Opera-Three-watch Not to be outdone by Breguet’s Reveil musical watch, Girard-Perregaux has released their music playing watch.  Although the Girard-Perregaux Opera Three watch was released way back in 2002, so in other words, Breguet is the one playing catch up.

The Opera Three watch plays either Tchaikovsky or Mozart at the top of every hour; this is done by a small music box which is placed inside the mechanical movement.  The music box has a keyboard with 20 blades that are played by a drum with 150 hand-mounted plates.

The Girard-Perregaux Haute Horlogerie Opera Three watch comes in a 43 mm platinum case and is powered by an in-house mechanical movement.  The watch comes with a 50 hour power-reserve with the indicator located at the 2 o’clock position which can be seen through a sapphire crystal.  The watch is equipped with a black alligator strap and as expected costs more than a supercar, a whopping $500,000.  But don’t worry, you’re not wasting your money, as this is considered a collectors’ piece and its value will only go up (fingers crossed).  Personally, if I was in the market for a music playing watch, I’d much rather go with the Breguet, which looks more luxurious and has cooler features.
