Regular readers of Unfinished Man know my love affair with MB&F watches, and I’m a huge fan of Max Busser, the man behind the company. Not only does MB&F create some of the most outrageously awesome watches, they’ve also started to create other “things”, like the Music Machine.
The watchmaker has teamed up with Swiss clockmaker, L’Epée, to create yet another work of art. This time it’s a table clock called the Starfleet Machine. The Starfleet Machine is designed by MB&F and produced by L’Epée to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the clockmaker.
Like many of MB&F watches, the Starfleet Machine (as the name would suggest) gets its design inspiration from spaceships and other flying objects. But fans of Star Trek would’ve immediately noticed the similarities between the Starfleet Machine and the space station, Deep Space Nine. I’m not too familiar with Star Trek, but upon looking up pictures of the space station, the two look very similar.
The Starfleet Machine table clock is stunning to look at, with all the mechanical elements exposed, to be admired by the lucky few that will own one of these limited edition pieces. The main part of the table clock sits in the middle with three long legs extending above and below it. In the middle sits a large dome that displays the minutes and hours, with a pair of laser turrets that act as the retro-grade seconds counter. Behind the main dome is a smaller dome, with a rotating radar, which shows the amount of power reserve left in the mechanical movement; 5 bars means it’s full and 1 bar means it’s almost time to wind it.
The movement is in-house and comes with an impressive 40 day power reserve. The L’Epée X MB&F Starfleet Machine table clock is limited to 175 pieces and is priced at 28,000 Swiss Francs, or about $31,500 at today’s exchange rate. Via: MB&F
