Not only is TAG Heuer producing some stunning timepieces lately, the company has also ventured into the world of smartphones. Their latest phone (they’ve had other phones before) is the Meridiist Infinite smartphone with “infinite” power, the battery never needs to be charged…
Or so the name would suggest, it’s actually a marketing gimmick, the kind that really pisses me off royally!! The TAG Heuer Meridiist Infinite does need to be recharged like a normal phone, the “infinite” bullshit comes from the fact that the phone comes with a Wysip transparent solar panel (a photovoltaic cell between the LCD screen and the glass) that uses natural and some types of artificial light to trickle charge the phone.
So in theory, you never need to charge this phone, as long as it’s in standby mode. If you do use the phone, which you probably would, why else would you have a phone, the little solar panel isn’t enough to charge the battery.
What’s more ridiculous about the phone is that TAG Heuer is asking $7,000 for each one of the 1,911 pieces it’ll produce. I think I’d rather buy a real solar panel and have enough money to buy the latest iPhone or Samsung Galaxy smartphone. Via: TAG
