Have you ever watched a movie and, through the magic of product insertion, found yourself wanting something one of the actors wore? I remember going on a long search for a watch I can’t recall now that was featured in a movie…This incredible watch was made of rose gold and captured my imagination.
Watches may be small, but they sure do know how to pack a punch on the big screen. These simple accessories may never even get mentioned throughout the course of a 2 hour script, but it’s hard not to notice when an actor is sporting something truly magnificent on his wrist. Welcome to the top 5 list of the most famous watches on the silver screen.
The Big Lebowski: Casio
The Casio watch is well known in fashion circles, but possibly one of the best advertisements the brand ever got was when Walter Sobchak wore a Casio DW-5900 in the cult film The Big Lebowski. Vintage Casio watches are now considered very collectable for vintage fashion and accessory enthusiasts, and the newer models you can find at Watches2U are celebrated for both their technology and design.
One Missed Call: Hamilton Jazzmaster
This spooky supernatural horror film is a remake of the Japanese original, but the watch that Ed Burns sports throughout is anything but. Hamilton are known for the intricate design of their timepieces and the Jazzmaster is a particularly beautiful example. The watch featured in the film even comes with its own certificate of authenticity.
Drive: Patek Philippe
Ryan Gosling cuts a fine form in Drive, the 2011 art house film about an unnamed getaway driver coming up against the mob. The Patek Philippe watch worn by Gosling’s character doesn’t just look great, it’s also the perfect techno-accessory for someone for whom punctuality is very important. Gosling’s watch was chosen very carefully by the wardrobe department, due to its importance and sentimental meaning for the character. Unfortunately, fans of the film won’t be able to purchase the watch as it was commissioned specifically for Drive.
Back to the Future: Casio Calculator Watch
One of our favorite movies features one of the most iconic watch from the 80’s, the Casio calculator watch (also known as the CA53W Twincept Databank). The watch came with an alarm, calendar, stopwatch, and of course an 8-digit calculator, because you need to calculate when and where your DeLorean is going to land.
American Psycho: Rolex Datejust
Patrick Bateman is the absolute epitome of yuppie culture. From head to toe, his look is meticulously selected to present the best and most professional front to everyone he meets. No matter than this front is little more than a very carefully constructed facade for one of cinema’s most celebrated psychopaths; the Rolex Datejust was a natural inclusion for Bret Easton Ellis’ character. And, of course, he’s business card-obsessed. Patrick Bateman, more than any other, knows how important the smallest details are to his look. His watch, skin care regimen, workout routine, and his watch are as important as getting a reservation at Dorsia…which seems to exist, at least on Facebook!
