The Oris Big Crown ProPilot Altimeter watch takes the honors of being the world’s first automatic mechanical watch with a mechanical altimeter complication. The big watch is perfect for pilots, aviation enthusiast, adventurers, and everything in between.
The watch comes with a 47mm wide stainless steel case with quite an elegant finish. The dial has a lot of numbers on it, but it seems to work fine without looking too cluttered. At the center of the dial is the standard hours/minute area with three hands. This area is surrounded by the barometer scale and the outer scale houses the altimeter scale. The altimeter scale comes in either feet or meters. Everything is finished off by an AR coated sapphire crystal.
The Oris Big Crown ProPilot Altimeter watches are powered by Oris caliber 733 automatic movements with 38 hours of power reserve, these movements are based on Swiss Sellita SW200 movements. These watches come with leather straps or metal bracelets; the watches with straps are priced at 3,300 Swiss Francs (about $3,700 US at today’s exchange rate) and the bracelet versions are priced at 3,500 Swiss Francs ($3,950 US).
