Years ago I read some great advice from self-proclaimed lifestyle hacker Tim Ferriss about how to plan a weekend. He basically said that if you start making plans on Tuesday, you’ll have something locked down for the weekend. It’s great, simple advice, and it works… when you actually remember to do that.
You see, I’m not really big into planning my weekends. I like the idea of planning my weekends – and sometimes I even do – but what inevitably happens is that plans fall through, or something doesn’t quite go right, and I’m left scrambling at the last moment to find a bar to drink my woes away. This happens with bars, restaurants… places to hike, you name it.
Now, when it comes to bars, normally I would look at a master-list I created or do a quick search on Google, but you know what? This almost never goes well. The reviews are usually nonsensical (maybe they drank before writing them?) and half the places aren’t even bars.
Not Sure Where to Drink, or What Drink to Make?
So what’s a man to do? He could start by trying DrinkAdvisor, a handy guide to bars and cocktails app for Android and iOS.
DrinkAdvisor is basically a curated, constantly updated list of bars and cocktails. It features bars from over 130 popular cities around the world, and untold amounts of cocktails. I’ve been playing around with the app quite a bit today (it’s Friday and I could use a drink) and I’m finding it pretty damn comprehensive.
Perhaps more importantly, both the bars and cocktails are all rated. I know, I know… there are plenty of reviews on Google for bars and cocktails as well, but it’s extremely convenient to have all this information aggregated directly in one app. It’s annoying to be scrounging around the Internet when you want nothing more than to get your evening going.

Really, though… if you can’t figure out how to use a phone app, you’ve got bigger problems than trying to find the next bar.
