As much as I like Swiss watches, sometimes their prices do leave a bad taste in my mouth. Although not as coveted as the Swiss watches, the Japanese do make some stunning watches that are very accurate (Grand Seiko, for example) and available at a decent price.
But if you’re looking to spend a big amount of cash on a Japanese watch, we have a very elegant looking watch for you. The Hajime Asaoka Project T Tourbillon watch produced by independent and self-taught Japanese watchmaker Hajime Asaoka fits the bill on the style and price side of things; this is the second watch produced by Asaoka.
To me, the Project T Tourbillon watch gets its beauty from the simplicity of its design. The watch has a very clean dial with an industrial element to it. The watch features a pair of hands and a tourbillon placed at the bottom of the dial and that’s all there is to the watch. But you can really see the quality of the small pieces of the watch, in the close-up pictures of the front and see-through caseback showcasing the beautiful mechanical movement.
The watch is powered by a hand-wound movement with 40 hours of power reserve. Instead of using rubies (jewels), the movement uses ball bearings, which are more robust. The case measures 43mm and is made out of steel with AR coated sapphire crystal on the front and a see-through caseback.
