Manscaping by the Decade: Should Your Grooming Change As You Age?

Grooming regimes are an essential aspect of most of our daily routines. And for most men, no matter what their age, looking good and feeling fresh is an important part of life.

However, as we get older, our bodies change, leading to inevitable alterations in our grooming needs. For example, men who once spent hours perfecting their quiff, mullet or spiked fringe may, one day, find that they have a little less to work with the in the hair department.

So should our daily grooming routine change by the decade? And what form should this adjusted manscaping take as we age?

20s & 30s

When you’re young, grooming is more about looking good than looking after your body and many men in their 20s and 30s put themselves through manscaping procedures that could actually damage them in the long run.

Using harsh chemicals to get the perfect hairstyle and waxing chest, leg or arm hairs without exfoliating and moisturizing properly can all have repercussions in the future.

It’s normally during these decades that men make the most dramatic manscaping efforts, often shaving, waxing and gelling in an effort to look as good as possible.

40s & 50s

As grey hairs start to appear, men in their 40s and 50s often begin to pay more attention to their daily grooming regime. During these two decades men spend time and money looking after their hair, skin and bodies.

By using good quality hair conditioner, visiting the barber regularly and exfoliating before you shave or wax, you can keep your hair and skin looking younger for longer.

There are also a variety of products on the market today that claim to help reduce hair loss, though there are no guarantees.

60s & 70s, 80s & up

As men move into their 60s and 70s, grooming can become even more important and many continue to moisturize, trim, tweeze and exfoliate well into their golden years – just take a look at the well-turned out gentlemen at your local McCarthy and Stone retirement home to see what we mean.

If you’ve got a beard or mustache, ensuring that it stays tidy and in good condition will help you to look years younger. Using wax can help keep any errant hairs in line and using a nose or ear hair trimmer where appropriate will also help to keep you looking great.
