Omega watches have been worn by various 007 agents (in movies that is) throughout the years, including the latest installments featuring Daniel Craig. However, the most famous and popular James Bond has to be Sean Connery, especially in the movie “Goldfinger”, which was released 50 years ago.
To celebrate the semi centennial anniversary of the movie, the Swiss watchmaker has created a one-off 18k solid gold Seamaster Aqua Terra Goldfinger 50th Anniversary watch. The watch was put on auction on September 17th and sold for a whopping 106,000 Swiss Francs (about $113,000 US), the watch sold for 8 times the expected price.
As the name suggests, the one of a kind Goldfinger Aqua Terra comes in a solid gold case, with a gold bracelet, gold dial, gold hands, and a gold winding rotor. The dial has a lot of character and looks like a poured gold bar, with lots of bumps and marks in the metal. The watch has a tasteful 007 on the seconds hand no other James Bond insignia on the front to make it look like it was trying too hard. The back of the case does have engravings telling the world what this watch represents.
The front and back of the dial is covered with AR coated sapphire crystal, giving a peak into the new Omega Master Co-Axial caliber 8501 automatic movement.
