I’m starting to think that I need to add a “people doing nice things” category to Unfinished Man. You see, not a day goes by where I don’t read about something terrible happening. The media is full of negativity, and though I try my best to avoid it, that’s not always possible.
So let’s switch it up a bit. I’ve been asked to write about this commercial for Dewar’s Scotch, and though this may sound shocking, I’m excited to be covering it. They’ve come up with a campaign called Live True Profiles in which they speak with unique and interesting people. That’s pretty standard, but… I think you’ll agree that the people they’ve interviewed are pretty fantastic. My favorite being Mark Bustos, a hair stylist from New York that provides free haircuts for homeless people. Why? Because he’s a good person.
Dewar’s Live True Profiles – Mark Bustos
If you’re wondering what’s going on here, the interview is in the form of Mark having a drink at a bar, and the bartender asking him questions. The video runs for just over 2 minutes, and I promise you’ll find it worth your time. You can also watch it directly on YouTube if you prefer.
I like to think that I’m a nice person, at least sometimes. But I’m going to be honest with both myself and you readers in saying that I’ve got nothing on Mark Bustos. I’m not out there giving haircuts for the homeless, which is just as well since I’ve never cut hair… but still!
The world is full of terrible people doing terrible things, and sometimes it seems like there’s nothing else. But there are also plenty of good people out there, people like Mark Bustos. If it takes a whiskey advert to inspire people to do nice things for other people, then so be it. Maybe the world needs more inspiring Dewar’s adverts. Maybe we’ll see more random acts of kindness.
When you see an opportunity to make someone’s life better, or even just to make them happy for a moment, do yourself a favor and go for it. Life is short, and there are too many sour people in this world.
