One of the wonderful things about growing up in Vancouver, British Columbia, was that I had easy access to the ocean. Every summer my parents would take me to the beach to swim in the ocean and make sand castles on the land, and every time I enjoyed myself thoroughly.
The ocean can be incredibly beautiful, and now that I’m living far, far away from it, I can’t help but feel a subtle melancholy every time the temperatures begin to climb and summer rolls around. So while photographs are no where near as satisfying as the real thing, they still help remind me of those magical summer days at the beach. This collection by Ray Collins is especially impressive.
I’ll just pop in here for a moment to say that the above photo is one of my very favorites from the collection. The water looks awfully rough, but boy is it a striking photo. I think it’s time for a beach vacation…
I hope you enjoyed this collection as much as I did, and if you’re one of the lucky people to have access to the beach, here’s what I suggest: get out there and enjoy it while you can. Life is short and the summers even shorter.
