We’ve written numerous posts on the latest tech craze, the smart watch; a few years ago, I had said the smart watch phenomenon will get very big and I was right, there seems to be a very large selection of smartwatches in the marketplace now and it’s only going to get bigger.
In smart watches there are two types of designs, the round traditional looking cases and the “look at me, I’m something different” cases. Personally, I prefer the round cases, which we first saw on the Moto 360 smart watch. There have been a few other round/traditional looking smart watches since and here’s the latest, the Alcatel OneTouch Watch.
The Alcatel smart watch is simply called the “Watch”, it has a very affordable starting price of $149 US. The watch is currently available for pre-order in Canada, the system will automatically convert the currency to CAD at checkout with that day’s exchange rate.
One of the cool features of the Alcatel OneTouch Watch is that it’s compatible with Android (Android 4.3 or newer) and iOS (iPhone 4S or newer) smart phones. The watch connects via Bluetooth 4.0 LE, giving it exceptional battery life. According to Alcatel, the OneTouch smartwatch has a battery life of 2 to 5 days, depending on use.
The watch comes loaded with health and fitness and a few other apps, including accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate sensor, altimeter, E-Compass, and music and camera control. The watch also alerts the user of incoming phone notifications, comes with a phone finder, and customizable watch faces.
At launch, the Alcatel OneTouch Watch will be offered in black or white cases, with other colors offered later in the year. The watch measures 41.8 mm wide and is 10.5 mm thick. The dial is 1.22” with TP and 240×204 resolution. The watch is equipped with a 210 mAh battery that can be charged using the built-in USB 2.0 charger in the watch band.
