Travelling for Work? You Need an Office…

As I write these words, I’m flying at about 30,000ft on my way out of Germany, the place I called home for the past week. I had a ton of fun and met a lot of really great people at the conference I was attending, and I’m looking forward to my next visit to the country.

If you haven’t spent any time in Germany, you’re seriously missing out!

As I mentioned just a few days ago, I’m an entrepreneur, and in my case that basically means that I travel for a living. Believe me, that’s not a complaint. Berlin this past week, San Diego next, and finally off for some well deserved vacation time in Miami. It’s going to be great, but…

I’ve realized just how important it is to have an office or work space on the road. It’s just as important as that home away from home I mentioned in my last article, at least for a business person like me.

That’s why I always stay at Country Inns & Suites whenever possible. I actually enjoy flying, but at the end of it all I want to stay at a place that makes me feel welcome and relaxed before diving into the work I’m passionate about. Did I mention that they offer complimentary cookies and coffee in the lobby when I arrive?

Right, so as I was saying, I can work away in their business center, take a break to eat some lunch or train at the fitness center, and then unwind at the end of the day… just like home. With locations in cities both big and small, some of the top destinations include: Minneapolis, Atlanta, Chicago, Nashville, Phoenix, San Diego and more.

That means that when I’m travelling stateside on business, I’ve always got my home and office away from home. One of the big differences, though, is that I don’t have a pool at home. That’s why I make ample use of the Country Inn & Suites pool when I can. Hey, don’t judge me, I’m working! They’ve got free Wi-Fi for me to use on my notebook computer. Dipping my feet in the pool helps me, uh… concentrate.

Yeah…

Anyway, if you’re travelling as much as I am, then make absolutely sure you’ve got a quiet place to work. If the place you’re staying doesn’t offer at least a basic work space, then it’s time to switch to a place that does. Trust me, it’s important, and The Rest Comes Easy.

Some of my best work has been done “on the road,” but I need to concentrate and yes, sometimes I even need to print things out.

May your travels be safe, enjoyable, and productive, and my last parting piece of advice is to make sure you eat breakfast. It’s the most important meal of the day, so don’t forget!
