Every once in a while I feel like doing something which my mother would consider stupid. An example of such “stupidity” would be bungee jumping. For some reason, I feel that I need an adrenaline rush in the warmer months while hibernating is the activity of choice for those cold winter months. There are tons of activities to do this coming summer and we’re going to list off a few suggestions to try with the guys.
Get A Motorcycle/Learn To Ride A Motorcycle
The first one here is just something that I’ve always wanted to do and I’ve somehow managed to get the wife to agree to it. Her agreeing to this is actually confusing the heck out of me but I’m going to go with it. I’ve never even been on a motorcycle before so I’m going to enroll in a riding school and go that route. You can always learn from a friend who owns a bike and save some money. Once comfortable on a motorcycle, it’s up to you whether the new adrenaline rush machine is going to be cheap or expensive. Prices will depend on whether things are new or used and of course the brand. It’s never too late to learn to ride!
Experiencing A Hovercraft
We once wrote about a BW1 hovercraft which was an interesting take on the traditional golf cart. If I could, I would totally own a personal hovercraft as my daily driver for work and just about anything else. With these bad boys, you can conquer almost all types of terrain and you’ll never need a boat to go out on the waters. But most of us can’t own hovercrafts so we have places like Hoverdays which offer affordable hovercraft experiences for families and friends. You get to take a hovercraft and put it through a course filled with mud, water, grass, and plenty of sideways drifting.
Can’t Go To Space? Experience Weightlessness Instead
While we still wait on the ongoing projects to take people to space at an “affordable” rate, there is a company that offers weightlessness without going to space but at a cost of a cool $5,000. The company, ZERO-G, uses a modified Boeing 727 that creates a weightless environment for passengers by performing a series of parabolic arcs during its flight. It took the company 11 long years to get the approval from the FAA and its first flight was conducted back in 2004. The company operates out of several locations including San Jose, Las Vegas, and Cape Canaveral. If you can’t make it there, the company also tours through other airports. Even better, you can request that they come to an airport near you!
Train Like A Navy Seal
This one is definitely not my cup of tea but there are plenty of men and women who would totally be down for training like a Navy Seal and actually make a vacation out of it. The Extreme Seal Experience is located in Chesapeake, Virginia and owned by a 24-year SEAL veteran Don Shipley. The company gives ordinary citizens an opportunity to train like they are a member of the Special Operations unit. The base $2,000 package will enroll you in a one-week ‘Advanced Course’ which begins with the “Hell Night” challenge. It’s described as “the hardest 24 hours that most people will ever go through”. After that lovely night, participants train in a variety of skills which include survival, nigh patrol, live-fire exercises, close-quarter combat, and even rappelling from a helicopter.
If some of these are a bit on the pricey side, there is always the local bungee jumps and sky diving experiences. I’m hoping the motorcycle experience will be sufficient and keep the adrenaline flowing.
