Last year I read a book called The Martian by author Andy Weir. It’s the story of one man’s experience on the red planet, and though it has all the elements you would expect from a story about the first few people to land on Mars, the story is about so much more than that.
Now Ridley Scott and friends are turning the book into a movie, and I’ve got to say: I’m very excited for this one. Matt Damon plays Mark Watney, the protagonist of the book, and he too is a fantastic choice for the film.
The Martian — Official Trailer
Did I mention you should just hurry up and ready the book already?
Here’s why: if you don’t read the book, you probably shouldn’t watch The Martian trailer. Simply put, it has spoilers that at least a few of my friends consider pretty major. I expected these plot points were pretty obvious, but you may disagree.
If you aren’t planning to read the book and instead hope to hold out until the movie arrives in theaters, then I suggest avoiding this trailer just to be safe.
Have you noticed how many space related movies we’ve been seeing over the last year? There’s a reason for that: we’re entering a new space age. Film is often a reflection of the times, and right now we happen to be entering a new age of space exploration and adventure.
With companies like SpaceX making massive strides in rocket re-usability, access to space is becoming more and more affordable. If we’re very smart and a little bit lucky, colonization of the martian surface may be much closer than we thought. It’s finally time to occupy Mars.
As I’ve said many times and will continue to say, we’re living in very exciting times indeed.
Fan of sci fi movies with matt damon haha, they save him again. Once in saving private ryan, once in instellar.
