There are a number of Smart Bulbs on the market right now and many of them have their own features to make them unique like built-in speakers as an example. One company has decided to make a Smart Bulb even more useful by implementing features which can act as a security system when you’re away from home. The light bulb is called BeOn Light Bulb.
The BeOn light bulb has the same amount of illumination as a standard 60W bulb would (approximately 800 lumens) but uses less power because it’s an LED light. Although power outages are not a common thing in North America, the BeOn light bulb does have its own backup power in case the power happens to go out in the neighborhood. Each bulb has four hours of backup power!
As cool as the backup power is, the highlight of this product is security features. Each BeOn light bulb contains a security module which can react to sound as well as learning your lighting habits over time. As the light bulb is learning your habits, you can enable ‘Protect Mode’ on the light bulb. The BeOn light bulb will replay those habits it learned to give the impression that someone is home even though you are actually vacationing in Mexico.
The sound detector also reacts to the ringing of the doorbell just in case a would-be robber tries to see if you’re home. Once triggered, the light bulb will turn on making it look like someone is home. If it happens to be a friend/neighbor ringing the bell, they probably won’t be too impressed as they wait at your front door looking like a fool.
And yes, like all things these days, the BeOn Light Bulb can also be controlled via an app (Android or iOS) or it wouldn’t be called smart. You can monitor, control, and preview the security settings with a few simple swipes.
Everything looks great except for the price. The starter kit comes with three bulbs and starts at $249 but use the coupon code “BUYNOW” to reduce it to $199. Additional bulbs will cost you $70 a piece. The BeOn Light Bulb will start shipping in August. For more details, check out the BeOn Home website.
