Audi has their RS line of cars to compete with the likes of AMG and M cars from Mercedes-Benz and BMW. However, there is no RS version of the A8 to compete with the might S63 and S65 AMG luxury sedans. The closest you can get to those cars is with the new 2016 Audi S8 Plus, the plus means more power!
Audi cars have been known to have very conservative styling, especially when they’re “redesigned” and called brand new cars; I’ve bashed them numerous times over this issue. But the new S8 Plus looks pretty fresh and I’m like the sharp lines.
The Audi S8 Plus is powered by a turbocharged 4.0 liter TFSI V8 engine that produces 605 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, an increase of 85 HP and 35 lb-ft of torque over the standard S8 sedan. Torque output is increased to 553 pound-feet in overboost. According to Audi, the S8 Plus is the “highest powered sport sedan in the premium segment”, I guess they forgot about the S65 AMG.
The big luxury sedan sprints to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.8 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. The top speed can be raised to 190 mph with the Dynamic package. For stopping power, the S8 Plus is equipped with carbon ceramic brakes behind 21” wheels.
The 2016 Audi S8 Plus will go on sale in Germany in November, with a price tag of 145,200 Euros, an increase of 28,000 Euros over the standard S8. No word on if/when the S8 Plus will be sold in North America.
