One of my favorite off-road vehicles has been the Land Rover Defender, I’ve written quite a few articles about it over the years, here at Unfinished Man. However, that was before I actually drove a Defender, recently I had the chance to drive a 1999 Defender diesel and found it to be extremely slow, so it did lose a few “love points” in my heart.
I didn’t expect the Defender to be fast, after all it is a tough utility vehicle, but it was even slower than I had anticipated. But thankfully there are tuners out there that also think this vehicle is slow and needs a little loving in the power department. British tuners, JE Motorworks, have created a monstrous Land Rover Defender, to meet the need of the power hungry Defender fans.
Called the Zulu² (that’s Zulu squared), the Defender is powered by a 4.7 liter V8 engine that produces 475 horsepower and 479 pound-feet (650 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to all-four wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Defender Zulu² also benefits from some suspension work and upgraded brakes. The exterior gets mild mods, with LED headlights, aluminum grill, and larger front air intakes. The interior now includes extra sound deadening material, leather seats, and air conditioning.
The JE Motorworks Defender Zulu² is a limited edition vehicle, only 25 units will be produced, priced at a cool 150,000 GBP.
