HYT Skull Bad Boy — The Dark Side of the Skull

HYT Skull Bad Boy: Dark side of the Skull sounds like an ominous name, and it really is a pretty serious looking watch. A watch fit for a superhero or even a super villain; Batman and/or Darth Vader would be proud to wear one of these limited edition timepieces.

I first heard of HYT watches a few years ago when they introduced the HYT H1 Hydro Mechanical Watch; a watch that was very nontraditional in many ways. First, the watch has no hour and minute hands; the Skull Bad Boy watch also removes the seconds hand. Second, the watch is filled with water (different colors depending on different watches from HYT) that’s stored in two bellows and is pumped by pistons. On the Skull Bad Boy watch, the liquid runs along the outer edges of the skull, indicating the time of the day. Third, these HYT watches are more like pieces of art that you wear on your wrist, rather than pieces of equipment that only perform the duty of telling you the time of the day.

The Skull Bad Boy watches are limited to 50 pieces, and come in 51mm titanium cases with black leather straps and display case-backs. The dials on these watches feature skulls made out of Damascus steel; Damascus steel is used in high-end knives and samurai swords, and come with beautiful patterns in the metal which looks like flowing water. The black color of the water that’s pumped in and out to tell time has been specifically designed for this watch. The entire process took 12 months of R&D to come up with the final blend of materials.

The eyes on the skull house a couple of complications, which may not be noticeable upon first glance. The left eye houses the indicator for the 65 hours of power reserve and the right eye shows the seconds. It is kind of hard to see these features on the black-on-black-on-black color combination of the Skull Bad Boy watch, however, it is easier to see it on previous versions with different color liquid. However the Skull Bad Boy watch is meant to menacing; time telling is of secondary importance.
