Epic Games recently showed off a short film called “A Boy and His Kite” which I’m sharing with you today. I post many game trailers and video game technology videos, but this is something a little different. This video is… pleasant.
It’s a nice little break from the often excessive violence and explosions found in most anything related to games or game technology. It’s just a boy chasing his kite through beautiful scenery built atop some impressive Unreal Engine 4 technology – the kind of tech that we’ll likely see powering a whole new generation of games in the coming months and years.
Our video cards need to catch up a little bit (I’m guessing this is running on one of NVIDIA’s new Titan X cards) but this level of graphics fidelity is coming.
There’s obviously no game here, but you know what? I would gladly run around in a VR experience like this. Simply exploring the rolling hills, lush forests, and deep dark caves of the landscape would be satisfying enough for me. In fact, I think many people would agree with me.
This year’s GDC was big on VR, and I suspect that people will be clamoring for “simple” experiences just like this as VR slowly rolls out to consumers over the next 12 months.
