San Fransisco is one of my favorite places in the world. The city is fantastically rich with a wide range of cultures, nature is close at hand, the climate is great, and… they’ve got The Golden Gate Bridge.
For those of you that have visited San Fransisco (or live there), you probably know this already… the views from the bridge are absolutely stunning. If you have the chance, I highly recommend renting a bike and heading across it on a sunny day. Memories to last a lifetime, I’m telling you. But there’s another side of the bridge that most of us will never see, a view from the top… a view to a kill, if you will. Today, I’m here to share the view from a very unique spot on the Golden Gate Bridge. A spot that only the likes of adventurous urban explorers could capture for the rest of us.
Golden Gate Urbex – The Extra Scenic View
For those of you that are afraid of heights or have weak stomachs, you may want to avoid the rest of the posts. Some of the views are absolutely terrifying. Also worth mentioning is that if you’re trying to find things to do in San Fransisco, well… save this one for the professionals and enjoy the view from the regular platform instead.
So, we start off simple enough. A simple bridge between the two sides of the bridge, and then…
Well then, I see… the next step is a bit of a ways down there. This is when things start to get really interesting, so instead of blathering on, I’ll leave you to enjoy them and re-join you at the end, probably from my evil airship.
Okay, sorry… one more thing. Seriously, this guy has stones the size of water melons. I’m not particularly afraid of heights, but I think that in this case, I would probably be shitting my pants. This seems like the kind of structure that Gareth of William Gibson’s Spook Country would be jumping off.
Pretty crazy, right? But man, what an incredible evening to be doing this on. Perhaps you’ll agree… the photos are rather amazing, and we have only one anonymous fellow to thank.
The Story & More Photos
Though I’ve picked out a few of my favorite photos here, this is just the beginning of the story. In fact, I didn’t even include the story, and it’s most certainly worth reading. So on that note, head over to this website and browse around. There are a lot more photos, and more importantly, you’ll hear all about this harrowing experience from the person who experienced it.
Wow! Amazing photos. Thanks for sharing Chad.
My pleasure, but don’t thank me, thank the fellow who took them. I wasn’t the one who had to climb up there. 😛
Gorgeous pictures!
I know, right? I would actually quite like to see some during the day as well.
Was that some sort of city worker up there on top of the bridge? I assume those were real photos up high and not computer generated effects programs. Those photos are amazing of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Actually, just a regular fellow took these photos. How he got up there, well… that’s for him to know I guess.
