Abandoned Japanese Highway – Motorcycle Ride

I don’t usually give two shits about cars, trucks, or any other sort of vehicle. There’s a good reason that I leave those topics to our other more capable, auto enthusiast writers here at Unfinished Man. Every now and then, though, I’ll see a video of a car or bike zipping along an interesting place, and it gets my adrenaline pumping. This is definitely one of those videos.

Filmed on an abandoned national highway in Japan, this motorcycle trek looks like quite the adventure. If you’ve seen the cinematic version of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road novel, perhaps you’ll agree that the path they’re traveling on looks very similar, though thankfully far less depressing.

I really like how nature is slowly reclaiming what was probably once a well traveled highway. Moss and fallen branches covers large tracts of the road, and tree roots are starting to work their way under the asphalt. I find the whole scene a stark reminder of just how tenuous our control of nature really is. How quickly would the wild reclaim our streets and cities if we weren’t actively working to maintain them? I don’t know how long this highway has been abandoned, but even if it’s been derelict for only 20 years, nature has made quite a dent.

If you know of any other great videos or resources of abondoned places, leave us a message with a link telling us a little bit about the place. The author of this video hasn’t really posted anything else, but I’m sure there are plenty more videos like this just waiting to be discovered and plastered all over the front of the Unfinished Man homepage.
