Vincent Pontbriand, senior producer on Assassin’s Creed: Unity, recently “announced” that his team decided to lock the frame-rate and resolution between the Xbox One and Playstation 4 versions of the game. Assassin’s Creed: Unity will run at a resolution of 900p and a frame rate of 30 frames per second.
The question is, why did they make this decision? Well, according to Vincent… “We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff.”
Needless to say, people aren’t too happy about this. Vincent then went on to say that, “We could be running at [100 frames per second] if it was just graphics, but because of AI, we’re still limited to 30 frames per second.”
I see. So basically the incredibly realistic next-generation nano quantum AI we’ve seen in the trailers is slowing things down so much that they’ve seemingly had to reduce the specs on just one platform? That seems a little suspect to me, and apparently many other people as well. Perhaps it would have been better for them to simply say nothing. What they’ve managed to do is create an intense debate, the exact opposite of what they wanted.
But enough with the ranting, you’re here for some sweet 900p Assassin’s Creed action, and I’m going to give it to you.
The Assassin’s Creed: Unity Story Trailer
This trailer weighs in at a little over two minutes and gives us an interesting glimpse into the world we’re going to explore in just a few short months. France during the French Revolution in 1798 looked a little grim, and Ubisoft seems to have captured that spirit in exquisite detail.

The only thing this trailer was missing was more explosions. I only counted a few, and that simply won’t do! Time to hire Michael Bay.
…And Some Beautiful Screenshots
Next up we’ve got a ton of new high-resolution screenshots from Unity. They’re no doubt taken from the PC version of the game, but that’s fine because that’s the platform you should be playing it on anyway. No limits, no locks.
You’ve read my rant, and you’ve seen their trailer and screenshots. What do you think of Assassin’s Creed: Unity so far? Do you think it’s going to be the AC game we’ve all been waiting for, or are we looking at more of the same?
I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
