The Audi A1 Sportback may not be a performance car or even a head turner but it is still an Audi and the offspring of some pretty cool vehicles. The company has decades of experience on the rallying circuits and have also had success in the world of Le Mans racing over the years. To celebrate its racing heritage, Audi has taken their least sporty vehicle and installed the R18 competition kit inspired by Le Mans.
With Audi’s years of experience and a cool name like the R18 Le Mans, you would think that the Audi A1 Sportback would be modified into a little pocket rocket. Unfortunately, this R18 Le Mans competition kit is all show and no go. What you get with this special edition vehicle is a bit of “sex appeal” ….if that’s what you want to call it.
The upgraded Audi A1 Sportback gets goodies such as a red and grey accents across its body, a sporty wing roof spoiler, and some new alloy wheels. On the inside of the A1, there are a few changes such as the branded floor mats and various trim pieces which are also finished in a red/grey color scheme to match the exterior decals.
It’s a little disappointing that the car gets a cool name but with very little to show for it in terms of power. It may look a bit different than the standard Audi A1’s but will perform just as terrible. I’m no expert but I’m sure Audi will have more success selling this if they made a few changes my list of suggestions. Suggestions such as a minor engine tune, sports suspension, upgraded exhaust system, short-throw gear shifter, and more sporty driver/passenger seats. And a brake upgrade can be something that is optional.
Well, that’s my two cents on how to make the Audi A1 Sportback R18 Le Mans a bit more interesting and live up to its racing inspired name.
