One day, I’d love to own a yacht or sailboat, even if it’s not 100+ feet I daydream about. I’m easy like that. While I dream about my future yacht, I can at least drool over the various super yachts being developed for the super-rich, including Azzam, one of the largest at 590 feet and now also the fastest in the world. The Azzam Superyacht recently underwent its first sea trials in the North Sea region, and the 590-foot luxury yacht was able to maintain a speed of 31.5 knots (37 mph).
By maintaining these speeds considering the massive size of the Azzam Superyacht, it’s being crowned as the fastest yacht in the world. With 94,000 available horsepower, the Azzam can actually maintain even higher speeds in deeper waters. The recent testing was conducted in water 60 feet in depth. It should be noted that the Azzam is approximately 30 percent faster than other yachts in its category.
The yacht was launched in April 2013, but the ship is still going through various sea trials before the ship can be handed over to the owner. If I was the owner, I’d be pretty restless at this stage of the project, but then again, I’d be pretty upset if something went wrong with a project of this scope.
The final cost of the Azzam Superyacht is estimated to reach the $600 million mark, and it’s reported that this luxurious yacht belongs to the royal family of the United Arab Emirates.
I think the Azzam should be crowned the “fastest yacht” for its size because there are other yachts out there that are able to operate at a faster speed, such as “The World is Not Enough,” which was able to hit a top speed of 70 knots but it was approximately one fourth the size of the Azzam Superyacht.
Fastest or not, this yacht is going to be badass once it’s completed and more details are revealed. The interior of the Azzam will be designed by a French designer, Christopher Leoni. At $600 million, the end result is going to be spectacular.
Azzam is something more than a yacht and one of the most impressive vessels built ever. Just wonder what will be the next yacht in the race of owning the largest and most expensive yacht in the world? Also what kind of people are those, who invest billions of USD in just one yacht for entertainment.
