A couple of years ago we wrote about the BioLite CampStove, a camp stove that not only cooks/heats food but also converts heat energy into electricity for charging your smartphones and other devices. The same people produced a couple of versions of the CampStove in the following year; now they have a new and bigger version, called the BioLite BaseCamp Stove.
The BaseCamp stove is more versatile than the original because of its larger size. It has a bigger cooking area and a larger area to put wood into, making a bigger fire. Like the original CampStove, the BaseCamp stove recirculates smoke back into the fire chamber for a more efficient burn and less air pollution.
The BaseCamp Stove also comes with a USB port to charge your favorite devices and it now comes with a built-in battery that stores electricity for later use. The stove puts out 5 watts of electricity and comes with an LED light, useful for nighttime cooking.
The BioLite BaseCamp Stove is currently being funded on kickstarter, for a pledge of $299; you can reserve yourself a BaseCamp stove. The team’s goal of $45,000 has already been met, with pledges currently sitting at $380,000 with 27 days to go.
